Escrima Sundays

Grandmaster Robert Castro, a 9th Degree Black Belt in Pilipino Stick Fighting, will be conducting classes at United Studios of Self Defense.

GM Castro is the mastermind behind the modern Filipino martial art known as eskabo da’an, an offshoot of the many stick-based Filipino arts that fall under the heading of eskrima, arnis or kali. He worked the system out over the course of nearly thirty years, with the intent of developing a system that could counter any other martial art in existence. It’s a fusion of eskrima, kali, arnis, boxing and jeet kune do. GM Castro trained with the founder of serrada eskrima, Angel Cabales.
Classes start on Sunday, February 10th from 3:00 – 4:30 PM, and are open to all Foster City residents. Call (650) 577-9234 for information and to reserve a space.

$85 a month
or $25.00 a class

Hard and Soft

Sometimes in the dojo, we talk about hard and soft styles of martial arts. This may not be a concern to the kids who come in to train who are so energetic and flexible and seem to be able to learn any jumping spinning move with ease. But for those of us who may have started our martial arts career in our adult lives, at some point it starts to be a topic of some interest.
